About Stellar Hog
Stellar Hog is a new BBQ concept by Alex Cupp working out of a South St. Louis traditional bar, which locals will remember as Super’s Bungalow.
Cupp was a classically trained chef who worked in the country club and fine dining sector, but he got burned out and took a break. After trying a few other avenues, he got back into cooking and fell in love with the barbecue scene.
Cupp was hooked on BBQ. He bought the old Bungalow establishment in October 2015 and completely remodeled the building into what you see in this video.
What About the Name?
Cupp didn’t have a name for his restaurant in mind, but his little sister began playing around with logo ideas. She created a design with the silhouette of a pig filled with a cosmic image. Cupp looked at it and thought, “that’s a stellar pig” and the brand was born!
What We Ate
Along with a sampler of delicious local beers, Diane and I tried:
- Stellar Hog Wings – these chicken wings are fully smoked and then flash fried and served with ancho chipotle sauce.
- Stellar Hog Fries – these fries are covered in a special seasoning and topped with pulled pork, pinto beans, and melted cheese.
- Stellar Hog Rib Jam – pork ribs are pulled apart and combined with sugar and vinegar to make this delicacy.
